The Civic Square – A distinguished plaza with a signature design
A key component to the implementation of the masterplan’s vision, the Civic Square links the central axis to the new public transportation hub. As the first development phase to be constructed, together with KPMG’s new building, it constitutes an important anchor point for the whole project. The Civic Square is partitioned in a sequence of three contiguous plazas surrounding the office tower. The unique paving pattern, with its high contrast and bold motif, is used as a common denominator for each of the three sub-spaces of the Square. To the east along Millway Ave, TTC Plaza offers comfortable and fluid pedestrian experience linking it to the public transportation infrastructure as well as numerous relaxing opportunities provided by ample seating areas located beneath a generous green canopy consisting of a large bosque of more than 25 trees. In addition to the daily flow of worker travelling through the East Plaza, the space will also be used as a venue for small events and a farmer’s market, bringing further animation to this urban ensemble. The West Plaza, on the other side of the Office building, is the threshold to the Central Park and features a large reflecting pool as its key element, marking the transition from the civic character of the plaza toward the leisurely ambiance of the park.
