A 1km long installation on rue Sherbrooke to commemorate 375 years since the founding of Montreal.
The year 2017 is a big one for Montreal – 375 years since the city’s founding, 50 years since the transformative Expo 67 world fair, and the 150 years anniversary of Canada. Qualities from these key events are distilled in this promenade installation over ten downtown city blocks, extending from McGill University to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Dozens of art pieces from several significant collections will be curated under a canopy of international flags (a recall to Expo 67) to define the experience of the promenade, culminating at the Museum with a suspended illuminated dove above the intersection of rue Sherbrook and rue du Musée. This illuminated oversized pendant recalls the cosmopolitan aspirations of the city as well as the optimistic internationalist nostalgia of the 1960s.
