2019 CSLA Excellence Awards:Breakwater Park, Kingston, Ontario, wins a CSLA National Award for medium-scale public landscapes

Breakwater Park is a promise for a magically immersive encounter with Lake Ontario. The project, for which construction began in 2012, developed in 3 parts: the revitalization of an existing park, a redesign of shoreline infrastructure, and an expansion into a neighbouring terrain vague with a derelict post-industrial dock transformed into Canada’s first deep water urban swimming pier.

Since its Summer 2018 inauguration, the increasing number of parkgoers has been an unmistakable testament to the project’s popularity and its contribution to Kingston’s urban life. This appropriation by the public concretizes our deepest wish as creators.
